FAQ

Q1. How to close apps running in background?

  1. Double tap home button.
  2. Then, you will see all the apps running in background at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Touch and keep pressing down any app you don't need.
  4. Then it becomes edit mode.
  5. Keep erasing apps you don't need.
Don't worry, it doesn't delete any apps but just close them completely.
And please remember, "Pressing Home Button Once" only send the app you were using to background.
No matter how fast your device is, you'll encounter problems if you never close any apps.

Q2. How to transfer songs from free version to paid version?

You can do this using export and import features via email.

  1. Open the file in free version you'd like to transfer to paid version.
  2. Go to PageView and select Action button which is located in bottom left.
  3. Make sure .iwm file attached and email it to yourself.
  4. Close Free version and open Email.
  5. Find the email you've just sent to yourself, then find a file with .iwm extension and open it.
  6. Select Paid version if you are asked which application to open the file.
  7. Don't forget to save it in Paid version.

< Note >
To attach .iwm file, you may need the following process

  1. Go to Settings then select Email Attachments.
  2. Set iWriteMusic file ON.
(If your free version is older than version 2, you can find this option in Application Settings.)

Q3. I want to create a triplet but the next barline appeared before I enter the 3rd note. How should I do?
Please remember that you can enter notes or rests beyond the bar limit. For instance, you can enter 5 quarter notes under 4/4 setting.
All the notes/rests over the limit appear in red color and will be ignored on playback, however, you can write long cadenza in a single bar beyond the bar limit.

Q4. Is there any trial version for iPad?

We're sorry but we postponed the release of iPad Free Version to add a few more features.
Right now, please try iPhone Free version on your iPad.
Here is the link of it.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iwritemusic-free/id393614358?mt=8

Since this version is made for iPhone Screen,

  1. It appears with big buttons with blur screen resolution when you try x2 size.
  2. Or it appears in iPhone screen size when you try x1 size.
  3. Because of its smaller screen size, the button layouts and the feel of operations are different.

But

  1. It has all the feature that iPad has.
  2. The resolutions of printouts and pdf (or jpg) files are exactly the same quality as iPad version
(although watermark appears on the pages).

Q4. Some lyrics (notes, accidentals) are overlapping in PageView. How should I do?

iWriteMusic adjusts spaces for each lines when it draws pages. Because of this, Some undesired shrinks or expansions may occur. There are several options in page Settings (located in top left) to make it better. Number of bars per line and/or Staff Size may be good starts to solve this problem.

Q5. I can't hear playback even when the mute switch of the device is off.

Please check these two things to solve this problem.

1. iOS version
iWriteMusic requires iOS5 or later version for playback feature as it is stated in application description. If you don't see Playback button on the top of iWriteMusic editor view, your iOS is earlier than iOS5. Please update it first.

2. Mute switches of the iPad
We believe that the mute switch of your iPad is not ON. But please check it first.
Second, if you changed the device setting to use this switch as Rotation Lock,

  1. Double tap Home Button to open Multitask Bar.
  2. Scroll to the left end, then Volume Control and Mute Switch will appear.
  3. Set Mute Off
  4. Make sure the volume is up.

We don't know why but this switch doesn't mute any iPod music and YouTube but surely does on iWriteMusic.

Q6. Any update plan?

We are very much obsessed to build this app as a very high end notation tool.
There is no guarantee and we can not tell exactly when, but we are trying to add the following features within a next few major updates.

  1. C-Clef (became available from version 2.1)
  2. Clef Change (became available from version 2.1)
  3. Lyrics Writing (became available from version 2.1)
  4. Voice Split
  5. Text input
  6. < > (cresc. decresc. marks)
  7. Note head options
  8. Note Stem options
  9. Grace Notes
  10. Track grouping
  11. Import Standard MIDI file
(The order is sort of based on our current priority but a subject to change without any announcements.)
Meanwhile, we will keep improving the performances, easiness to use as well.

Q7. What is Standard MIDI file?

This file contains MIDI data in standard format which you can transfer to other major notation software such as Finale or Sibelius. You can also play it with most of audio players such as QuickTime or Windows Media Player, however you can not play it on iOS5.
iWriteMusic is currently supporting "Export Standard MIDI " only, which means you can not transfer MIDI data that you created with other notation software to iWriteMusic.

Hope you find this information useful.
Cheers!
